    Landfill gas generation plant

    The strong point of Deco S.p.A.’s disposal plants for MSW are the annexed landfill gas generation plants, in which the delivered waste fraction is recovered in order to produce electricity, exploiting the gas produced by anaerobic degradation of the organic fraction

The Deco S.p.A. energy recovery plants, with a total capacity of 4,427 kW and a maximum production capacity of approx. 34,000,000 kWh at full strength, are able to meet the needs of 13,000 households.
Landfill gas capture amounts to 21.620.000 Nm3 and the production of electricity resulting from it avoids the use of traditional sources such as oil for a quantity of 8.966 tonnes, as well as the emission of 23,868 tonnes of carbon dioxide released to the atmosphere.

The plant, situated at the “Colle Cese” landfill in the Municipality of Spoltore (PE), operating since July 2005 and upgraded in August 2006, enables:

  • an annual production of approx. 16,500,000 electric kWh, equivalent to the annual electricity demand of about 6,290 households;
  • the recovery of approx. 10,300,000 Nm3 / year of biogas;
  • to avoid the annual consumption of 4,271 Toe;
    (Toe = tonnes of oil unused producing electricity from renewable sources, biogas instead of oil);
  • to avoid the emission of 11.583 TeV;
    (TeV CO2 = tonnes of CO2 avoided – not released into the atmosphere – producing electricity from renewable sources such as biogas, instead of using traditional sources like coal, oil, etc.);
  •  to avoid the dispersion into the atmosphere of 77.524 TEF;
    (TEF CO2 = tonnes of CO2, equivalent to the tonnes of methane – CH4 – contained in biogas which would be dispersed into the atmosphere if not captured by the plant).

The plant, situated at the Casoni landfill in the Municipality of Chieti, operating since November 2004, enables:

  • an annual production of approx. 4,867,316 electric kWh, equivalent to the annual electricity demand of about 1,855 households;
  • the recovery of approx. 3,320,000 Nm3 / year of biogas;
  • to avoid the annual consumption of 1,377 Toe;
    (Toe = tonnes of oil unused producing electricity from renewable sources, biogas instead of oil);
  • to avoid the emission of 3,417 Tev;
    (TeV CO2 = tonnes of CO2 avoided – not released into the atmosphere – producing electricity from renewable sources such as biogas, instead of using traditional sources like coal, oil, etc.);
  • to avoid the dispersion into the atmosphere of 24,990 TEF;
    (TEF CO2 = tonnes of CO2, equivalent to the tonnes of methane – CH4 – contained in biogas which would be dispersed into the atmosphere if not captured by the plant).
